Chinese Ferrovanadium and V2O5 Exports Slide

www.ferroalloynet.com: As of Thursday August 8, for ferrovanadium, 78% V min, fob China is USD 40-42 / kg, while the price of ferrovanadium basis 78% V min, 1st grade, ddp, Western Europe is USD 31-32.15 / kg on Friday. In the first half of 2019, China exported 2,807 tons of ferrovanadium ( basis 75% vanadium), down 17.9% from 3,419 tons in the same period in 2018.

The year-on-year drop in the export of ferrovanadium mainly dues to the China’s prices are higher than those of its European counterparts, which weakens the interest of Chinese exporters in transporting their goods abroad. “When the domestic price is obviously higher than the overseas one, it’s unsurprising to see exporters prefer to sell domestically,” a Chinese market participant said. “Because that not only saves them considerable time and effort but also leaves them larger room for profits.”

In terms of V2O5, in the first half of the year, China exported 2,780 tons of vanadium pentoxide, down 27% from 3,808 tons in the same period last year. Similarly, these exports fell significantly year-on-year, partly because Chinese exporters felt that domestic prices were higher than those in Europe and were reluctant to sell abroad.
