A section of Vanadium Road in Collier Township will be closed next week for railroad work.

The Allegheny County Department of Public Works granted a permit to the Pittsburgh & Ohio Central Railroad Company to close Vanadium at the railroad crossing about 500 feet east of Aylesworth Avenue starting at 10 a.m. Monday for track replacement and paving. The road is expected to reopen Friday, Oct. 11.

Traffic will be detoured using Montgomery Avenue, Vanadium Road, Bower Hill Road, and Washington Pike (Route 50).

To help mitigate congestion in the area, police will direct traffic at the intersections of Greentree Road and Washington Pike as well as Greentree Road and Old Washington Pike from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 7 and from 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 8-10. Additionally, police will manually operate the traffic lights at the intersection of Vanadium Road and Washington Pike during those times.
