“Vanadium liquid flow battery” is the largest, most advanced and nearly industrialized high-efficiency rechargeable fuel cell in the world. It has the advantages of high power, energy, high efficiency, low cost, long service life and no pollution. It can be used in photovoltaic power generation, wind power generation, distributed power station, grid peak shaving, communication base station, UPS / EPS Power supply, transportation and municipal administration have good application prospects. On December 31, 2019, the Ministry of industry and information technology issued a circular on the catalogue of guidance for the promotion and application of the first (set) major technical equipment (2019 version), in which the vanadium liquid flow battery was included.

At the meeting, representatives discussed the marine conditions, safety, power density and layout form of “vanadium liquid flow battery”. Li Hua, technical director of Shanghai Electric (Anhui) energy storage technology Co., Ltd., introduced the development and three key technical conditions of “vanadium liquid flow battery”. The company’s products currently cover the whole series of vanadium liquid flow batteries of kilowatt level, gigawatt level and megawatt level Battery energy storage system. Zhang Zun, general manager of Shanghai Tianyi ship design company, introduced the power distribution scheme of lithium battery for 120 container ships. Li Ying, chairman of Shanghai baovanadium New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., introduced the financial leasing marketing mode of “vanadium liquid flow battery” marine market.

Participants agreed that, after 2-3 years of joint efforts, it is possible to realize the application of “vanadium flow battery” in the marine battery market. Among them, small capacity “vanadium flow battery” may coexist with “lithium battery”, and large capacity “vanadium flow battery” may replace “lithium battery” due to its high reliability (service life of 20 years) and flexibility of vanadium solution layout.
