U.S. Steel Imports Increase By 61.9% In January

www.ferroalloynet.com:According to preliminary statistics from the U.S. Department of Commerce, monthly steel imports in the United States in January 2021 increased by 61.9% compared to December last year, reaching 2,198,449 tons, a decrease of 23.3% year-on-year. In terms of value, the total US steel imports in January were US$1.65 billion, compared with US$1.29 billion in December and US$2.15 billion in January 2020.
The main sources of US steel imports in January include: Brazil (758,828 tons); Canada, 513,235 tons; Mexico, 331,229 tons; South Korea, 119,254 tons; Russia, 83,044 tons.
Calculated by product category, the total import of semi-finished products in January was 1054,215 tons, which was higher than the 128,875 tons in December, but lower than the 1,356,821 tons in January 2020. The total import of flat products in January was 544,767 tons, which was lower than the 663,816 tons in December and 758,551 tons in January 2020. The total import of long products in January was 330,484 tons, which was higher than the 258,960 tons in December, but lower than the 350,437 tons in January 2020. The total import volume of steel pipes in January was 211,117 tons, which was lower than the 252,567 tons in December and the 332,089 tons in January 2020.
According to data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the US steel import market share was estimated at 15% in January 2021, compared with 18% in December last year.
